Save The Wreck

On a close-knit Hull council estate, four lifelong friends treasure a patch of woodland they call the Wreck: a place of laughter, memories and community. When developers threaten to build on it, the friends launch a series of chaotic schemes to save it.

Save the Wreck highlights the impact of lost green spaces, wildlife under threat and the importance of mental health. This is a heartfelt, funny and mischievous play that celebrates friendship, resilience, and a community that always has each other’s backs.

Save the Wreck is a brand-new 30-minute commission for Fresh Ink and a work-in-progress play. A second draft will be performed script-in-hand inside a marquee on Stage@TheDock.

Jamie Lee Falk

Jamie Lee Falk has been writing fiction for over a decade and is the author of two novels. A lifelong Hull resident, they have developed a love for character-driven storytelling and humorous, engaging dialogue.

Inspired by Sally Wainwright, they began exploring scriptwriting and discovered their passion for theatre on the Hull Truck Theatre Playwriting Course, where seeing a short piece of their work performed by actors sparked a desire to explore theatre more deeply.

Alongside writing, Jamie has spent years working with vulnerable people and minority communities, drawing on their experience as a person-centred therapist. This commission marks Jamie’s first professional playwriting opportunity, and they are excited to bring their voice, humour, and love of character to the stage at Fresh Ink.

Meet Jamie in our Meet the Writers events, each morning of the festival at Stage@TheDock.
