Kayfabe Babe
In the ring, Lexi Blade is a hardcore hero, cult favourite and queen of the indie wrestling scene. Behind the curtain, she’s Dixie: ambitious, fearless, and desperate for the career she’s spent her whole life fighting to achieve.
When the region’s biggest televised wrestling promotion comes calling, the smoke, mirrors and spectacle of “kayfabe” bring with it an unfathomable catch. As the lines between performance and reality begin to blur, Dixie discovers that sometimes the hardest fights don’t happen between the ropes.
Kayfabe Babe is a brand-new 30-minute commission for Fresh Ink and a work-in-progress play. A second draft will be performed script-in-hand inside a marquee on Stage@TheDock in Hull's Fruit Market.

Aidan Thompson-Coates
Aidan is a Hull-born actor and writer. He participated in the 2025 Middle Child Writers’ Group alum, with his short script Hear Lies... performed as part of last year’s Fresh Ink: Hull Playwriting Festival.
Most recently, Aidan has developed his debut solo show, BALLGAMES, supported by the Royal Court Theatre, Middle Child and Nathaniel J Hall, performed as part of Hull Truck Theatre’s GROW Festival in June 2026. His writing marries comedic and playful tones with the raw, unfiltered human experience.
