Daddy’s Girl

A play by Elle Douglas

Jules has always looked after her dad, Clive, doing his shopping, making his tea and cleaning up after him. But when she falls pregnant, she questions everything.

Can she be a good parent when she has been parented by someone so self-absorbed? Will her relationship with her dad withstand having a baby? And can she burden her unborn child with a man like Clive?

Daddy's Girl is a brand-new 70-minute commission for Fresh Ink and a work-in-progress play. A second draft will be performed script-in-hand inside a marquee on Stage@TheDock in Hull's Fruit Market.

About the writer

Elle Douglas, a Geordie now living in Hull, is a singer who got into writing theatre after being part of Live Youth Theatre in Newcastle as a teenager and writing an original musical as part of her studies of Musical Theatre at Wessex Academy of Performing Arts.

After being commissioned to write a children's show with music for Durham Gala Theatre in 2023, this is her second commission, and she is excited to write something with themes for adult audiences.

Meet Elle in our Meet the Writers events, each morning of the festival at 11.00am at Stage@TheDock.
