Middle Child Writers' Group

Applications are now open for the 2027 edition of Middle Child’s free, introduction to playwriting course, led by Tom Wells.

Learn how to write a play from scratch in a series of workshops starting in January, then see your work performed at Fresh Ink: Hull Playwriting Festival (pictured above) in July next year.

You don’t need to have written anything before, you just need to have a few good stories to tell – funny stories, sad stories, tough stories, tender stories – stories we’re eager to see on Hull stages.

  • Find out more, including how to apply before the deadline of midday on Friday 13 November.

No Dress Code: Young Writers' Group (The Warren Edition)

Thanks to support from The Warren Youth Project, Middle Child’s writers’ group for 16-25 year olds returns for a second year.

Join Hull playwright, screenwriter and podcast writer Lydia Marchant for a one-week intensive introduction to playwriting course.

Over four days you will learn to find your voice, develop character and structure a scene that will be performed by professional actors at Fresh Ink 2027.

This free writing programme is part of Middle Child’s No Dress Code scheme to improve access to theatre for young people in our region.
